Hey with you guys doing PSU testing, could you try the 1stplayer black widow? It's a cheap '500W' fully modular chinese PSU that no consumer seems to trust, I would love to see whether these misgivings are as unfounded as those about this PSU, especially before I buy one (I live in NZ and PC parts are crazy expensive here, since we don't have any domestic brands, the only other options in my budget look even dodgier than this one)

NEVER BUY THAT WALMART GENERIC SHIT there is EVGA SUPERNOVOA 850 G2 its GOLD RATED much better power supply then those two power supplies you tested.. Shipping is going to be a bitch for people that live in HAWAII and ALASKA SO forget the tower go with a notebook like this one http://www.xoticpc.com/xotic-g72-apache.html the only thing wrong is the CPU is limited 2.2GHz it will turbo boost 4 GHz I do not know the CPU is only a one core turbo boost like the i7 8086K or the CPU in the notebook got more core to turbo boost with or all core turbo boost. The screen is 1080p 144Hz GTX 1070 8gigs GDDR 5 all kinds of storage options. and they will not give you a crap power supply. its got windows 10 home 64bit pre-installed.

I would never buy a power supply from a reseller like Corsair, OCZ or anything like that. I buy my Power Supplys only from a Manufacturer that made Power Supplys for years, have the needed experience with it and with extremely strict multiple quality controls during the Manufacturing process. So the one and absolut only for me and my PC is: "be Quiet!". I do not risk a damage due to defective power supplies or a faulty or even missing surge protection!

dude, you might want to make a comparison between PSUs with this little test of yours.. not everyone has osciloscope and load generator like you... i for sure would like to see comparison between gold, silver, bronze, and platinum certified psus and from different brands and models.. this will be a great references for those who wants to choose a PSU... this could be the benchmarking of PSUs... and we could test the limit of each psus with the load generator...

I’m using an EVGA 850 p2 but it’s got a squeaky fan so I bought a new fan and soldered the cables from the old one to the new one then realised it’s 27mm thick and it needs to be 25mm so now I have no fan in my power supply . 😭

That is quite interesting, didn't expect that. Now my next question would be, are there even still really terrible PSUs available for purchase via more or less reputable marketplaces like amazon that do blow up under expected loads? Or is it a case of parts becoming cheap enough for manufacturers to build low-price PSUs that aren't terrible in general.

After my FSP 650W Bronze PSU blew up on me (luckily all my PC components survived), I am very careful about what PSU to choose, and I spent some time reading reviews until I decided to go with EVGA G3 750W Gold. Almost 3 years now and I'm very happy with it so far.

Thanks God my Corsair PSU didn´t turn into shit. But what I know now, when I buy my next PSU, I won´t throw my money into Corsairs deep throat. I will look for way cheaper options. Good to know, thanks a lot. Didnt know its all the same sperm just blended and never thought about it. I Just bought what I experienced as pretty good for my self-.- Still, PCMR FTW :D :D :D

You guys want to laugh at Great Wall? They are one of the best PSU manufacturers in the world! They mainly do OEM. They produce many legendary PSUs such as the Corsair SF600! Shame you don’t know that! The money companies pay them determines the quality. From the worst to the best. That is Great Wall, headquartered in Shenzhen just like Corsair China and many other big brands.

Walmart PC is not bad at all (now that they lowered the price), you can move components to better case and that should do it. And as far as PSU, looks like it can hold just fine. Mobo and Video cards are Gigabyte, memory is ok...just don't tell me your HP is better. Not defending Walmart, but I think reviewers were too harsh.

Dude you are trying to explain testing results to people watching your video, you're not trying to sell a car at a texas public auction. Take a deep breath, slow down, explain the curves without just reading numbers as fast as you can, and maybe people can go through the whole vid without a headache, and understanding something. You guys did some good work on the tests, its a shame to present them so badly because all your work goes to waste.

I really enjoyed the power supply testing and would like to see more reviews, especially of cheaper supplies. Power supplies don't get many in depth reviews these days and are something people tend to overpay hugely for out of unnecessary fear, IMO. It might also be good to have a guide for people to estimate their power needs and read the PSU label to figure out what they're actually getting, as they can be misleading. And I will say that even when most PSUs fail these days - which is fairly rare when you have stable household current, aren't subjecting it to crazy heat and aren't stressing any of the rails - they have pretty good protection (OVP, UVP, OCP, OTP, SCP, fusing). The better monitoring circuits have become cheap enough that these are usually integrated on any PSU over like... $16. I only finally got a cheap 485W HEC from 2009 to fail spectacularly while doing some heavy overclocking for fun - and that's the only failure I've personally seen - and all of the PC's Phenom II era components were fine afterward.

Have you considered opening the PSU to examine the filtering stages and the components used in the PSU? I ask as long term where the components (capacitors, rectifiers, etc.) are made (Japanese caps. for example) are important to know. Hardware Secrets has some great examples (http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/why-99-percent-of-power-supply-reviews-are-wrong/ & http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/hardware-secrets-power-supply-test-methodology) Looking at the filtering stage sections of their reviews gives a good idea (http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/silverstone-strider-plus-600-w-st60f-ps-power-supply-review/3/) although they don't do PSU reviews anymore.

Better than Dell. The PSUs Dell uses are exposed, so you can stick a metal rod in it and kill yourself, without even opening the PC.

Bibasik7 Having an exterior exhaust/intake grill on the PSU is standard since the fits PC. For decades, the PSU fan was actually an 80mm mounted right there, only when they switched to 150mm PSU fans for noise reduction was the fan moved to the bottom of the PSU. Of you can stick a screwdriver through an open hole and touch a live mains connection, it means the PSU is classified is only IP20, same as most of the power sockets in a house.
