This video is just some fun with Gordon Mah Ung of PCWorld. We talk about the most likely comments Intel will receive for its new announcements.

We didn't go into this video with a plan, we just decided to casually discuss the latest Intel announcements. This was filmed at Intel's event last week, talking about 3D die stacking, Foveros, 10nm CPUs, Ice Lake, Sunny Cove, and more.

@Jason Bourne I saw a guy testing mayonnaise and it worked. Not the best thermals and some fungi appeared but that proves it's an emergency solution.

I've been reading Gordon's articles since the early 2000s and still remember a segment he did on thermal paste for the AMD Athlon (which also showed what happens when there is no fan or paste) and he theorized using cream cheese and then his hand for slight lulz.

Hey sheeple. Look at Intel and nVidias profits. No competition so we need regulation for monopoly.

The fact AMD have forced Intel to get off their fat greedy lazy asses is why competition is good.

hahahahaa, this is really Intel's, "HEY WAIT! Don't buy AMD, wait another 6mo in 2019 and buy Intel!" ....yeah, have intel currently, wrong... you've been ousted. Intel cheap? rofl! If AMDs leaks are true, they're sunk for sure... for multiple years.

I certainly don't believe the AdoredTV leak, though it would be awesome if it was true. Who would've thought they could get 6 cores for $99 in 2019?! It would be very generous of AMD to release Ryzen 3 (e.g. R3-3100) with 6c/12t but then again Ryzen 1st gen forced Intel to effectively bump up their i3s into i5s.

The cards Intel have shown here looks promising, and I wholehearted agree that monolithic 2/"2.5"-D dies is definitely nearing its realistic limits if we wanna continue to see any significant performance increase on generational basis. Unless we're talking human generations ^^, - That said - I'm not giving Intel any cred for PowerPoint slides and theory. Nor should anyone else get that, for what will/should ultimately be a physical product. Tech history has an insanely huge and ever growing graveyard of red herrings, abandoned projects, vaporware and stuff that vastly underperformed. I sure hope Intel comes back strong and competitive, including on value, soon. Because what benefits all the best, IMO, is strong competition. Which has been thoroughly demonstrated in the last 20 ish months since Ryzen, Threadripper and Epyc were released into the wild. In just 18 months we went from a decade of 4c/8t max on desktop Intel, to 8c/16t. 2 years ago that was nearing the roof for HEDT options ffs. And if you really push it, today you can have 6c/12t on Ryzen, proper performance not old bulldozer stuff, with a motherboard, brand new, for barely $200. Desktop computing still has its challenges, but my oh my, its an exciting time :)

I loved how you did this vid! I'm still of the mind set of "Go with which ever one you want or can afford." I know that is very neutral, but I don't see why there's strong debate for either. My family has AMD cpu's. However, if I felt an Intel cpu, that is in the same price range, is better, then I'm all for it. On the flip side, I'm a big fan of supporting the smaller guy. Admittedly, AMD has had plenty of chances to give Intel cutthroat competition all these years and have missed the boat a few times. Now, imho, it really does come down to preferences. A competitive market is not only healthy, it is very beneficial to us customers and we finally have that.

It comes down to game engines, doesn't it? How many current-gen engines actually use parallelism or concurrency to a sufficient degree to make a dozen-core+ cpu work better than a quad core 8 thread cpu with higher clocks? I haven't messed around with game engines much, but from what I understand most of them are written in C++ or a language based on C++ with real concurrency a not-recent feature but ultimately not part of the language's design IDK if we'll ever see something like a game engine written in Go, but at least that would scale to many cores really really well because the language was designed for distributed computing.

We need a third player in the CPU market. In two years we will have three players to chose from for GPUs and I hope someday we will have a third chose in the CPU market. More competition is good for Consumers. When the competitors are close to equal in what they offer prices are better for us the Consumers. I am excited to see what happens in 2019 and 2020 we should have some good products to chose from

I don't think it'll quite be 5GHz on conventional cooling but if they can break the 4-4.2Gig wall with 8C/16T to 16C/32T on the consumer platform, Intel is in more trouble than they are now as there will be little point in paying the same 30-50% premium for single digit performance gain. I still think Intel will hold the clock and IPC crown but the pragmatic among us (yours truly included) will find Zen 2 intoxicating
