Building GN's Insane RIPJAY Overclock Rig, Pt. 1

    Dauer: 34:11

We're building our most insane overclocking bench yet, featuring dual TITAN RTX cards, a 9980XE, and sub-ambient cooling with lots of insulation.
Ad: Buy Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut on Amazon (geni.us/gntgkryo) or Conductonaut Liquid Metal on Amazon (geni.us/gntgconductonaut)
    PARTS LIST BELOW.
This is our continuation of the series that we put in stasis. We're going to try and reclaim the DE-filmr OC crown by coming back at Jay's "SUCK IT STEVE" score where he used dry ice, except we're going to try and beat it with chilled water and better hardware. Jay did a great job, we just think we can keep this thing going a bit longer before resorting to more extreme measures. #ripjay
In the meantime, this build is also just sort of fun. It's different and it's temporary, so we get to see how the absolute best hardware configuration performs for "gaming" (if you call it that) before tearing it all back down. The radiator will be a MO-RA3 rad and end up in the ice bucket, which will be a first for that particular radiator.

how is the guy using a 5960x processor in the lead on that benchmark? you'd think that old 8 core would get smoked by modern high core cpu's? i mean, it is on time spy extreme graphics score. how is that getting higher than a 9900k? also, it says, that gamers nexus is running the cpu at 2600 mhz? is that so? i have a 1950x oc'ed to 4.1 ghz, you'd think my cpu would out perform than on simply raw clock.

Steve, if you put all MB on a container like a freezer, and fill with many "anti-humidity" (silica gel for eg.), you'll not need to worry about condensation.

You should do a Linus and blow air directly on the sub ambient components to try and stop condensation.

That shunt mod doesn't look accurate to me, like what is the resistance of the liquid metal. Why not solder the same value resistor on the old one so it's in parallel so it halves the resistance, and that will double the current for the same reading. Why don't you conformal coat everything if you are worried about condensation, it's a stable in the electronics field. Antistatic wrist straps don't work if they are not connected with a wire to ground.

I posted this as a response to Jay2Cent's LN2 video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jzaodF3NkzE&t=548s&ab_channel=JayzTwoCents "Honestly you and GN should refrain from using LN2 in your benchmark competition because it produces an unrealistic performance figure as using LN2 outside of relatively brief benchmarking (it's not a long term viable cooling solution) is not practical. You should only use methods that your viewership can replicate to produce performance metrics that are relevant. Whatever youre getting under LN2 is irrelevant. It's like going to the drag strip and there being alcohol based funny cars running the quarter mile in the 7's. Those cars are so far from streetable that the performance is irrelevant. As an automotive enthusiast I'm sure the analogy isn't lost on you Jay, if youre reading this. I'm going to post this over on GN as well. Stick to methods that are common-place, LN2 shouldn't be used here, nor should putting your radiators in coolers full of ice. The furthest thing you should be able to do is run massive external radiators that are only air cooled. "

did you see the Louis Rossman video card repair video? Using gallium based material to shunt completely disintegrated the solder on the sensing resistor, and killed the card (prior to it being sent to him for repair.

Why do you use thermal pads and not copper shims? You could stack layers of http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=copper+shims with some thermal compound between them. That has to be better than thermal pads.

The world champion overclocker whose name starts with an "S" made an article on Tom's Hardware I think today or yesterday talking about how he gets world-records. Maybe try his method... solder something together that you can pour LN2 into, and directly onto the die.

In drone racing we waterproof our electronics with Silicon Conformal Coating, it's like using nail polish, why not conformal coat all over the board to protect from condensation? Just a question, I figure there's a reason you don't I'm just curious.

Back when I overclocked (might have a record back in the 1800+ era) I used vapor change, a prometeia to be precisee. Why don't you use a system like that in stead of making such a mess of it? (Not talking about the isolation cos that's top fucking notch my dude)

don't add salt to the ice water it will help the ice melt faster..kinda like they do in the winter on icy roads to melt ice in the first place and prevent it from getting frozen again(at least for a time). you can try to test this using some frozen meat at home too and see it for yourselves! i may be wrong but this was my first thought when i heard you mentioned it! Just trying to help. Awesome content you guys, keep it up!
